Welcome to The Pottery at Studio 5
Our Studio
Based in the heart of the Potteries, right next door to the Gladstone Pottery Museum, home of The Great Pottery Throwdown. The Pottery at Studio 5 is based in The Roslyn Works, established in 1841 there are records of two bottle kilns on this site since 1856.
The studio is ideal for those who prefer small group settings, providing a calm space for you to explore your creativity through the medium of clay.
Our workshops are small, with a maximum of four participants per session. This offers the opportunity for individual help and support. Our tutors are experienced in working with small groups and are committed to creating an inclusive and safe environment.
You’ll have the opportunity to learn about and try a variety of pottery techniques, including hand-building, glazing, and firing.
Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience with ceramics, our workshops are suitable for all skill levels.
We look forward to helping you share the joys and challenges of pottery in a supportive environment.

About Me
I’m Jane.
I love workng with clay, starting as a child with my Mum who was a keen potter and teacher, then on various courses, making pottery at home and then moving into my own studio 10 years ago. I have worked in Higher Education and the social sector for thirty years, I started out working in drug treatment and other support services before getting my Doctorate and moving into teaching and research. For the past few years I have managed a Dementia Charity and am part of a research team investigating neurodegeneration in former athletes. Pottery is the perfect antidote to this challenging work, working with clay is relaxing, often unpredictable and a wonderful way to spend the day.
I moved into the Roslyn works in 2016. There has been a pottery on this site since 1841 and there are records of two bottle kilns here from 1856. The building was renovated around the kilns and consists of small units for creatives and makers. It is connected to the beautiful Gladstone Pottery Museum currently the home of The Great Pottery Throwdown. The museum opens on April 1st and there will be ample time to visit if you want to before or after your workshop – entry charges apply.
